Thank You Note From President Barker
Dear Friends in the Highland East and Highland West Stakes,

I wish you all could have been there as Nan and I were presented with a marvelous book containing amazing pictures,
heartfelt memories and spirit-filled testimonies to commemorate the time period when it was my privilege to serve as the
President of Highland Stake. We were so touched. The book, and the Spirit it carries, is such a powerful reminder of how
richly the Lord has blessed us. We are so grateful for you and this marvelous memory.

For those now in the East stake, thank you so very, very much and we miss you! For those in the West stake, thank you so
very, very much and we are so grateful to continue serving with you!

Ammon, from the Book of Mormon captured my feelings: "I cannot say the smallest part which I feel." (Alma 26:16). That
is the truth! My very best, President Daniel A. Barker

Spiritual Thought - 05/09/12

“In the sequence of events as set forth in the scripture, God first created the earth, “and the earth was without form, and void” (Genesis 1:2).  He then separated the light from the darkness, and the waters from the land.  Then came the creation of vegetation of all kinds, giving the beauty of trees and grass, flowers and shrubs.  Then followed the creation of animal life in the sea and upon the land.
Having looked over all of this, He declared it to be good.  He then created man in His own likeness and image.  Then as His final creation, the crowning of His glorious work, He created woman.  I like to regard Eve as His masterpiece after all that had gone before, the final work before He rested from his labors.

I do not regard her as being in second place to Adam.  She was placed at his side as an helpmeet.  They were together in the Garden, they were expelled together, and they labored together in the world into which they were driven.”   President Gordon B. Hinckley

Spiritual Thought - May 2

“The gospel is a thing of joy.  It provides us with a reason for gladness.  Of course there are times of sorrow.  Of course there are hours of concern and anxiety.  We all worry.  But the Lord has told us to lift our hearts and rejoice.”  President Gordon B. Hinckley

Spiritual Thought - Apr 18

“I suppose no one is as handsome or as beautiful as he or she wishes, or as brilliant in school or as witty in speech or as wealthy as we would like, but in a world of varied talents and fortunes that we can’t always command, I think that makes even more attractive the qualities we can command – such qualities as thoughtfulness, patience, a kind word, and true delight in the accomplishment of another.  These cost us nothing, and they can mean EVERYTHING to the one who receives them." -  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Power of Ministering.” “Our Heavenly Father needs us to follow a higher path and demonstrate
our discipleship by sincerely caring for His children… We are trying to concentrate on caring
about our sisters rather than completing lists of things to do. True ministry is measured more
by the depth of our charity than by the perfection of our statistics.” (General Relief Society

“I have discovered that life is not a series of great heroic acts.  Life at its best is a matter of consistent goodness and decency, doing without fanfare that which needed to be done when it needed to be done.  I have observed that it is not the geniuses that make the difference in this world.  I have observed that the work of the world is done largely by men and women of ordinary talent who have worked in an extraordinary manner.”  President Gordon B. Spiritual Thought - Feb 8

“Rise to the great potential within you.  I do not ask that you reach beyond your capacity.  I hope you will not nag yourselves with thoughts of failure.  I hope you will not try to set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve.  I hope you will simply do what you can do in the best way you know how.  If you do so, you will witness miracles come to pass.”  President Gordon B. Hinckley

Spiritual Thought - Feb 1

“No one of us is less treasured or cherished of God than another.  I testify that He loves each of us – insecurities, anxieties, poor self-image, and all.  He doesn’t measure our talents or our looks; He doesn’t measure our professions or our possessions.  He cheers on every runner, calling out that the race is against sin, not against each other.”  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Spiritual Thought - Jan 14

"When you are confronted with challenges that are difficult to conquer or you have questions arise, the answers to which you do not know, hold fast to the things you do know.  Hang on to your firmest foundation, however limited that may be, and from that position of strength face the unknown."
-Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Spiritual Thought - Jan 1

January 1
At the beginning of a New Year, I always reflect back on the past and look forward to the future.  I love this quote from Elder Holland,

“The past is to be learned from but not lived in.  We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes.  And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead; we remember that faith is always pointed toward the future.”

With this New Year, let us take that faith that points us toward the future and work on being truer to what we know in our hearts is right for us individually and our families.
